The Youth Brass Orchestra has existed for 45 years. The first conductor of the Orchestra was Stefan Sadlicki (1959-1966) and the second - Kazimierz Ołtarzewski (1966-1974). From 1974 until the present time the Orchestra is directed by Jerzy Zdanewicz.
The Orchestra has got a rich and diversified repertoire and gives concerts around the country as well as abroad.
The Orchestra had been admired in many well-known towns like Warsaw - Sala Kongresowa, Opole, Kraków, Szczecin, Wadowice, Lublin and in Olsztyński Castle. They often represent their home town in a lot of competitions and festivals.
The band represented The Białostocka Land in all-Polish Youth Brass Orchestra's Festival in Inowrocław for nine times. They got there many great prizes like:
- the 2nd place for the presentation of the stage concert (1995),
- the 1st place for the show of the artistic drill (1998).
In 2003 they got the 1st place for the artistic drill as well as distinctions for the best drummer's leader and saxophone player.
In 2004, during the festival in Siemiatycze, the Orchestra achieved a great success and won a lot of prizes and distinctions like the Minister of Culture Prize, some distinctions for the conductor, the drummer's leader and the ballet group.
In 2005 the orchestra got the 3rd place during the Festival in Krynica Zdrój for the Marching Parade. The Youth Brass Orchestra also achieved a great success in many festivals and competitions abroad. During the Europarade in Villefranche De Rouergue in France, they got the Public Prize and the Special Jury Prize (1999). In 2002 - the 1st place for the stage concert in Niebüll (Germany). In 2005 during the World Youth Music Festival in Zürich (Switzerland) the Orchestra got:
- the 1st place with the distinction in the Music Show category,
- the 1st place with the distinction in the Marching Music with Evolutions category,
- the 2nd of equal rank place for the stage concert.
The Orchestra has taken a part in many interesing events. One of them was a trip to Italy and the audience with Pope John Paul II. They also paid their respect at the Monte Cassino.
At present, the Orchestra consists 62 people; 32 representative players conducted Jerzy Zdanewicz, 12 beginners with their guardian Jarosław Szczerba, 3 drummer's leaders - the instructor Tomasz Zdanewicz and 14 dancers - the instructor Maria Gierasimiuk.
